About the Economic Development & Utility Committee:
Montville Township's Economic Development Committee is charged with developing and implementing a strategic business attraction and retention program for the municipality. Its function is to match enterprises looking for a new home with a suitable and appropriate location within Montville's borders. The Economic Development Committee's mission is to attract strong and diverse corporations that will add to the township's already strong and diverse business mix. The primary focus of the Economic Development Committee is to promote occupancy of existing vacant commercial sites (see current list of vacancies) and to work with revitalizing currently occupied developed properties to aid in enhancing current tax rates. The EDC also assists, at the direction of the Township Committee, with new applications and/or inquiries for new commercial/industrial developments; compiles and provides timely and useful vacant listings for developments; fosters a business friendly environment; works to ensure a balance of interest with the environment; promotes an understanding of economic development; and helps the community to realize a desired economic future.
Location and Transportation:
Montville's strategic location makes it a unique place to live and work. The Township is located in Morris County and lies about 10 miles north of Morristown, the county seat, and 30 miles west of New York City.
Montville's business community enjoys important local and global networking opportunities. The Township's proximity and access to major transportation systems and international markets is appealing to many. It is nestled between Interstates 80 and 287 and U.S. Route 46. These major highways make it possible to reach New York City in about 40 minutes via the George Washington Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel or the Holland Tunnel. The Delaware Water Gap is a pleasant 40-minute drive west on I-80. Northbound I-287 provides easy and quick (20 minutes) access to the New York Thruway and points north. Commuter rail and bus service to New York City is also available.
Additionally, Newark International Airport and Port Newark, a deep-sea port, are within 45 minutes of the Township. This is particularly attractive for those firms involved in telecommunications, health care and international trade.
Finally, Montville's proximity (15 to 40 minutes) to nearly a dozen institutions of higher learning and Picatinny Arsenal provide local corporations with access to cutting-edge technology, and a highly skilled and well-trained workforce.
